Over the past few months, the public art committee of the new NEON (New Energy of Norfolk) District has led an initiative bringing national and local artists together to create collaborative large scale public art projects around the city. As an ode to the incredible work of art this city has become, I thought it would be fun to photograph some of the pieces through the lens of a yogi. These images highlight the city of Norfolk as both our canvas and our yoga studio and add an element of human interaction to these boundary-pushing, awe-inspiring masterpieces. Right on time, as yogis & artists will be joining forces again next week for the NEON festival celebrating the city’s burgeoning Arts District. Festivities will include live performances by musicians, comedians and performance artists, pop-up local vendors at the NEON marketplace, eats & drinks, showcases of national & local artists, and…”Glow Flow” yoga classes both nights of the festival led by our pop-up yoga collective, the Bhav Brigade. I’ll be teaching an all-levels dynamic vinyasa flow class Thursday 10/15 complete with hundreds of glow sticks, black lights & a killer soundtrack and Danielle Stern will be closing out the festival with a second Glow Flow class on Friday 10/16. Both classes run from 8-9pm on the lawn of the Harrison Opera House and are free, so if you live around the Hampton Roads area, come on down & join us!
